Salary range: £26,000 - £30,000 p.a. plus bonus and competitive benefits

Location: Office-based in Richmond, Surrey

  • Do you have a degree in chemistry, biology or a closely-related science subject with a solid understanding and genuine interest in chemicals
  • Do you have at least a years’ experience of working in a commercial business environment, either in logistics or with a chemical company?

We are looking for 2 business-focussed graduates to learn the end to end logistics and global shipping processes which are the life blood of Newport Industries. The post holders will come on board with a mission to learn about all aspects of our business, and can expect to be supported and trained in doing so.

We see these positions as being ones which would suit people who want to develop a long-term career within our company. This has worked for a number of graduates who have joined our business early in their careers and still continue to grow with us!

The key focus areas for professional development will be related to Chartering vessels and Shipbroking activities, or moving into fully fledged Chemical Trading.  We see logical lines of career progression where intelligent and hard-working individuals could gain valuable professional qualifications, financially supported by Newport Industries, and build the foundations for flourishing careers in this growing sector.

To succeed, the post holders will need to have a keen interest in learning more about chartering and shipbroking & trading along with the willingness and personal drive to undertake professional study and achieve these specialist qualifications while working in busy operational positions.

They will initially take responsibility to settle into the business and work as Logistics Coordinators, learning how to process customer orders from start to end, receiving orders from the sales team, and then liaising both internally and externally with suppliers, docks, warehouses and hauliers to ensure that orders are fulfilled efficiently, as economically as possible to maximise profitability, and always meeting client demands on timing to final destination.

They will then be willing and able to STUDY for either a Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (“CILT”) qualification, or an Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (“ICM”) shipbroking qualification. Newport Industries will fund these courses, but will expect the post holders to do the necessary study work in their own personal time. (Some paid time off work will be granted to sit exams per the Company’s Training Policy.)

Newport Industries is a leading global sourcer and distributor of chemicals and minerals. We are now one of the leading minerals players in the UK, so it’s an exciting time to join the business! - Established over 25 years ago, we have offices on 3 continents, successfully supplying hundreds of industrial mineral and chemical products to a very diverse range of application industries including glass, ceramics, construction, coatings, animal feed and pharmaceuticals. Plans are in place to continue the successful year on year growth and our hope is that our employees will grow and develop their careers alongside us.
