The Role

One of London’s most diverse and vibrant boroughs, we want all of our neighbourhoods to be places where people feel proud to live and work. Community is everything here. To deliver first class services for our residents and customers we have to maintain a high performance culture. Our aim is to recruit and develop talented people who will deliver for the people of Camden, take a lead, work as one team, find better ways of doing things and take pride in getting it right. We want people who share these values, which we call the Camden Way. So if you’re full of ideas, enthusiasm and hard-working values, then consider a career with one of London's leading Councils.

The role of the PRS Placements Adviser will be to maximise the supply of suitable private rented homes made available to people in need of a placement, in accordance with the council’s homelessness accommodation strategy and placement policy. These properties will be both in & out of the London area and be of a suitable standard, meeting Camden’s property standard requirements.

You will be responsible for negotiating rent and cash incentive levels with landlords & agents in accordance with Camden’s rates, property inspections and drafting of works schedules, tenancy and housing benefit sign ups, accompanied tenant viewings, in accordance with the council’s homelessness accommodation strategy and placement policy.

About you

You will have excellent negotiation, customer care and IT skills and have an adaptable and resilient personality that thrives under pressure and are able to go the extra mile to achieve outstanding results. The successful candidates will be responsible for meeting challenging targets for homelessness prevention through the provision of suitable and affordable PRS accommodation.

You will help to prevent homelessness at an early stage to help people to avoid needing temporary accommodation and to leave it as quickly as possible, so that Camden continues to have one of the lowest rates of households living in temporary accommodation in London. You will ensure (through casework with applicants and landlords/agents and wider joint working) that tenancies set up via Camden’s PRS access schemes are sustainable.

The successful candidate will ideally be someone with experience of procuring, managing or letting private rented sector housing or someone looking to change direction and be able to show a commitment to a career in local government within the homelessness sector evidenced by skills gained in related studies, employment or voluntary work. They will demonstrate adaptable skills, knowledge, and commitment as required to meet the demands of the key accountabilities.

Working knowledge of related legislation such as Protection from Eviction Act, environmental health legislation and welfare benefit legislation is beneficial. A working knowledge of Housing Act 1996 Part VII and the Private Rented Sector (PRS) market is desirable.

No formal qualifications are required but a high standard of general education attainment is essential.
