Arriva is a major train operator in the UK and we currently operate 23 per cent of the UK passenger rail operations. through the following companies: Arriva Rail North, Arriva Train Wales, Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry, Grand Central and London Overground Rail Operations Limited.
Working as a graduate in the new Strategy and Policy team you will be supporting the strategy development for the UK trains division. This will bring together knowledge from across the business to drive towards a common goal. The role covers all aspects of the rail industry, from commercial and planning through to performance and customer experience giving you an excellent grounding within the train industry. Working within teams you will use data analysis to identify potential opportunities for improvement, support the development of innovative solutions to drive improved performance across the board and ensure these are captured and reported company wide. You will also link with the policy team to ensure that opportunities help drive the general direction of rail policy in the UK. You will get involved in collecting and analysing data in different ways and drawing corresponding conclusions. Furthermore you will use your stakeholder skills to ensure buy in to initiatives across the train operating companies.
The role will suit a graduate who is highly numerate and analytical. Project management skills are beneficial but not essential as you will learn these on the job. Confident, with good communication skills to deal with different stakeholders and comfortable dealing with senior management. Good at taking the initiative and being resilient in seeing projects through. You will gain excellent exposure with senior people and the chance to see all of the different parts of the business. You will be integral to developing the medium to long term train strategy and this offers an excellent opportunity to see the entire business and be exposed to different parts of the organisation. After the graduate scheme you will be able to pick which area is most appealing to you and develop this into your longer career at Arriva.
As an Arriva Graduate, you will complete an 18-month programme which is designed to attract and develop talented young people. During the programme, you will have the chance to do placements in different business areas and work alongside experienced leaders, giving you a unique insight into our business and the skills you need to excel within it. It is possible that one of these placements is an international one, to one of the 14 European countries that Arriva operates in. You will attend a set of graduate events and training modules where you will gain knowledge about Arriva’s operations, strategy and business model and where you will meet Arriva’s senior managers and Graduates from other countries. Apart from your main assignments, you will be working on an international project together with other Arriva Graduates. You will be carefully supported by your mentor and will become part of an international Graduate network.

- You must have, or be expecting to achieve a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree: Engineering, Science or Maths degree is desirable but not essential
