Programme Details

Your initial two years will be spent gaining experience in different operational areas and we will fully fund your studies towards chartered status. You will enjoy a series of rotational placements designed to help build your understanding of the business and will work with colleagues across the company as a team member in areas such as procurement, planning, manufacturing, engineering and logistics. There may also be opportunities to work at other sites within the UK and Ireland as well as Europe depending on business needs and your linguistic ability.

As part of the team you could find yourself involved in projects assessing how we improve the delivery of products (7,000 in the UK alone) or how we better manage our multi-million procurement budget. You could be engaged in reducing our environmental footprint or evaluating raw materials or driving the introduction of ‘lean’ principles, processes and tools. You may even find yourself involved in the implementation of our state-of-the-art production facility at Ashington employing cutting edge manufacturing technology and setting ‘best in class’ standards in sustainability. As you gain experience, you will also enjoy training and development modules to increase your general business and personal abilities, covering topics such as project management, networking with senior management and IT skills.

You’ll be placed in a number of teams to gain experience, whether it be the manufacturing, quality, engineering, logistics or business improvement teams. You could also be placed in a commercial team to broaden your knowledge and understanding in this area. What is certain is that as you grow and develop you will take on more responsibility for continuous improvement, project development and implementation as well as be better prepared for your future as a business manager.

What we’re looking for

If you have the ambition to become part of our world class operation and develop a career in Supply Chain you will need to have achieved at least a 2:1 or equivalent* in mechanical, chemical or manufacturing engineering, Supply Chain or Operations Management, a minimum 300 UCAS points or equivalent** and speak fluent English. A degree in chemistry or post qualification in supply chain or logistics will also be considered.

You must also have strong interpersonal skills to work with colleagues across functions, cultures and at different levels within the business. You will need to be the type of person who can inspire change and innovate as well as simplify how we work and bring a pioneering approach to ensure we continually improve. Comfortable working in a team, you will need strong project management and analytical skills and be comfortable working on multiple projects with new groups that could be based in different locations. A second European language would be desirable but not essential.

Previous relevant work experience or placement would be an advantage.
