Training & Profiles

Graduate Training Scheme - Fundraising & Marketing Directorate

The Fundraising and Marketing Graduate Scheme 2005 is now open for applications.

Raising profiles
The Fundraising and Marketing Graduate Training Scheme is designed to give high-calibre, business-minded individuals a broad exposure to all the main fundraising disciplines.

It's a unique, fast-track opportunity and is a chance to make a real difference to the lives of people touched by cancer.

The work we do and where you fit in
We raise funds from a wide portfolio of activities and as part of our graduate scheme you'll help us find resources vital to continuing our research into the prevention, treatment and cure of cancer.

It's a considerable challenge, calling for strategic thinking, innovation, and a determination to pursue fresh possibilities.

A variety of placements
Our Graduate Training Scheme has been running for several years and is designed to give you experience of some of the following key areas:

  • Marketing
  • Communications
  • Development
  • Strategy Unit
  • National Events
  • Retail
  • Community Fundraising

If you're successful, at the end of the scheme, you'll move into a permanent role in one of these fundraising departments.

Helping you develop the skills you need
As one of a number of graduates based chiefly at our offices in central London, you'll rotate through four placements during your two years on the scheme.

During this time you'll also benefit from a specially designed training and mentoring programme.

Qualities and experience you need to demonstrate
To take advantage of this unique opportunity, you will need more than just an enthusiasm for the charity sector. You'll also need the right attitude and approach, and good academic qualifications - at least a 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent) in any subject.

You need to be a strategic thinker, numerate, and literate and also have excellent PC skills.

You also need to aspire to the highest level of professionalism, be able to prioritise your work effectively and demonstrate a genuine commitment to seeing every project through.

Assessment dates We will be holding assessment days during the following weeks:

  • First Assessment centres 23rd and 24th March 2005
  • Second round Assessment centres 15th, 18th and 19th April 2005
  • Final Assessment centres 26th and 29th April 2005

The closing date for applications is Friday 18 February 2005.

"When I first started considering my options after university, I knew I wanted a career that was challenging, matched my personal values and offered plenty of opportunities to progress. Having now come through Cancer Research UK's graduate scheme, I can say its lived up to all my expectations. This really is a place where your aspirations and ambitions are valued. The experience I gained on my placements also helped me to realise that I was most interested in the strategic issues the organisation faced."
