Case Studies

Name: Joy Doherty
Role: Section Manager
Joined: September 2002

After completing a BA (Hons) Business Studies degree from the University of Teesside, Joy Doherty joined Toyota Manufacturing UK in 2002 as a Production Planning Control Graduate.

"Learning through doing is the best way to describe working life at Toyota Manufacturing UK. Gaining practical experience, improving your skills through courses helps you manage the levels of responsibility that come thick and fast.

I provide sales forecasts and market trends analysis in my role in Production Planning. Understanding sales demand and linking it to the plants capacity to deliver is a crucial role for which you need to know every area of our plants - which I think is quite a privilege.

Working on-line for eight weeks during the Graduate Development Programme was a real eye-opener and an experience I will never forget - it also really helped me in my current role to understand capacity on the shop floor.

Things change quite quickly here. On each project you learn something new and make improvements for the next one. I’m continually liasing with different manufacturing departments throughout the plant and our European sales headquarters and have the opportunity to travel to Brussels.

At Toyota Manufacturing UK you are encouraged to use your own initiative and can get on and do it, with a good support network behind you when you need it - which really suits the way I like to work."
