Deans Foods are a major food business and are the leading producer, supplier and marketer of free-range eggs in the UK. Deans Foods are a well established business starting in 1938 as a small family farm business they have grown organically and by acquisition which resulted in sales reaching a high of £336.8m by 2004 and today they are still increasing. They have branded products and supply their eggs to all the major retailers including Tesco's and Sainsbury's. Deans Foods has four main operating divisions.

  • Shell Eggs - Responsible for the production, distribution and marketing of all types of fresh eggs.
  • Egg Products - Supplying liquid egg and blends to food manufacturers and value added egg products to the foodservice industry.
  • Feed Milling - Producing a range of feed for company farms and bespoke feeds to an increasing number of external customers.

Matt Richardson, graduated in 2003 from Harper Adams & started at Deans Foods in the October as a Trainee Manager. His first 6 weeks involved introducing him to everything about the Mill and how it operates.

After his 6 week induction he moved to the Finmere site and spent his first 6 months learning in detail how that particular mill worked. He got involved with the raw material intake, supplement ordering and the quality control.

He has been at the Finmere site for 2 years now and is in an Assistant Management role. He manages a team of 6 people and deals with everything from shift patterns, stock control, raw materials, engineering etc.

Training & Profiles

Deans Foods are looking to recruit an ambitious graduate working in the feed mill division with the expectation to become a site manager within 5 -6 years.

Your role will begin by spending 6 - 9 months learning all aspects of operation within the feed mill. You will spend time with ?intake' and raw materials, blending (mixing), production planning and management, product traceability and quality, transport and dispatch, the administrative side of the business (from paper work to customer contact) plus all areas of health and safety.

After this initial training you will move into a role at another site around the UK directly supporting one of the managers. Within 2-3 years after joining the company the expectation is for you to be in a management role within a smaller site.

You can apply with any degree discipline however an interest in agricultural and/ or food would be beneficial. You will need to be conscientious with a strong work ethic and be prepared to ?graft' and ?roll your sleeves up'. You must have the potential to manage a site, and know how and when to drive your career.

You will need to be computer literate in MS Office, have good interpersonal, organisational and planning skills, a methodical way of working with strong attention to detail. You must be confident, ambitious and always keen to learn new things.

Salary - £18,000 - £20,000

Location: Nottingham area for the first 6-9 months then at any other site in the UK. (You must be flexible and re-locatable)
