The Berkeley Group

The Berkeley Group 2024 graduate opportunities}

Company Company Profile

The Berkeley Group’s developments range in size from a few homes near market towns to complex, mixed-use urban regeneration schemes of over 4,000 homes including multi-million pound restoration projects, schools, community centres, student accommodation and senior living homes, all built with safety, sustainability and quality at their heart.

The Berkeley Group brings together a range of diverse companies devoted to the same ideals. Berkeley, St James, St George, St Edward and Berkeley First all create award winning homes and mixed-use developments of outstanding quality, which exceed expectations on all levels.

However, we are about far more than buildings. We believe we should make a vital contribution to the landscape, to the communities we help create, and to the environment as a whole. We aim to achieve this through our commitment to excellence in design, sustainability, and addressing the needs of our customers and their neighbours.

The Berkeley Group recognises that a key element to remaining a successful and sustainable business is the recruitment of talented graduates. We are therefore looking to recruit over 40 of the brightest graduates with degrees in disciplines related directly to the skills and knowledge required in our following operational departments:

  • Land acquisition and planning
  • Technical
  • Commercial
  • Construction
  • Sales
  • Estate management
  • Accounts

This year, the Berkeley Graduate Scheme offers graduates an opportunity to gain invaluable hands-on experience in the development process within one of the following divisions: Berkeley, St Edward and Berkeley First.

Application Procedure

FAQs

Can I apply if I don't have a property-related degree?

We look for graduates that have skills and experience that are relevant to the departments that they are applying for.

A relevant degree puts you in a strong position but is not essential. If you do not have a relevant degree, we would expect you to demonstrate through your CV and application that you have picked up knowledge and skills that you could apply to the role. For instance, you may have relevant work experience, or completed useful courses in addition to your degree.

Certain departments are less reliant on a property-related degree, for instance our sales department. However we would expect applicants for these roles to be able to demonstrate some knowledge and passion for the property industry.

How do I know which department to apply to?

We take on graduates with a variety of degrees and backgrounds.

To find out more about each department, typical degree qualifications and the type of qualities which make a successful graduate in each area, refer to the Our Departments section of the Berkeley Graduate Scheme webpages.

Typically our graduates have the following academic backgrounds:

  • Land acquisition and planning - real estate or planning
  • Technical - architecture (although please note that the roles through the Graduate Scheme are to manage the design process rather than act as an architect)
  • Commercial - quantity surveying
  • Construction - construction management
  • Sales - various degree backgrounds including business management (relevant work experience is therefore a key factor when determining suitable candidates)
  • Estate management - estate or property management
  • Accounts - accounting or finance

Can I apply to more than one department?

You are able to submit multiple applications to apply to more than one department if you feel that your qualifications and experience are relevant to more than one area of the business.

However, we would recommend that you carefully research the area you are interested in and select the department you feel is most suitable for you.

Can I apply if I’m still studying?

Graduates must be available to start in a full-time role in Spring 2014 and therefore candidates should only apply if they will have completed their studies by this time.
