Rail internships for graduates - graduate jobs

Graduates looking for jobs in the transport sector could benefit from a new internship scheme designed to help them take their first step on the career ladder.

More than two dozen rail companies have joined forces to offer paid work placements for up to 100 graduates.

The Track and Train scheme offers graduates the chance to work for a total of 18 months in three different companies.

Successful applicants will spend six months working for Network Rail, followed by two further six-month placements at either a passenger or freight operator or another rail company.

A total of 27 companies are taking part in the scheme, which is aimed at young people who have left university in the last two years.

It has been designed by Network Rail to help university leavers who are unable to find work or are currently employed in a non-graduate role.

Organiser Patrick Butcher, group finance director at Network Rail, said: "We know that there are many smart, talented individuals out there that haven't had their break yet and as a growing industry we can work together to provide challenging, valuable and paid work experience to kick start their careers.

"What sets this scheme apart is those involved will work across the rail industry and by linking it all together, develop a fantastic knowledge and understanding of the challenges we all face and the opportunities for the future."
