Graduate jobs could be among the 7,000 positions created by supermarket chain Morrisons next year as it opens more stores and develops its logistics and manufacturing divisions.
Butchers, bakers and fishmongers are particularly sought after by the supermarket as it opens 25 new stores in 2012
Morrisons revealed that about half of the vacancies will be filled by people who have previously been out of work, while approximately three-quarters will live nearby.
Some 300 vacancies will also be created at the company's new Bridgwater Regional Distribution Centre, which will sort food to be delivered to south-west England and south Wales.
Norman Pickavance, Morrisons group human resources director, said: "Despite the difficult economic conditions, Morrisons continues to have ambitious growth plans and that means we will be searching for people to join us in the communities in which we operate.
"At a time when the number of young and long-term unemployed continues to increase we will provide opportunities for many people and help them build a career in retailing. That means we won't just be providing a job, we're committed to training our new colleagues so that they have the capability to move from the shop floor to the top floor."
