Marking its 100th anniversary in the UK, Ford has announced a new £1 million plan to offer scholarships to 100 graduate students.

The car giant said its UK university scholarship programme is aimed at helping students further their education in technical and innovation fields.

Under the Ford Blue Oval Scolarship Programme, 100 student scholarships will be provided - one for each year that the US-owned firm has operated in the UK - at top universities to inspire a new generation of engineers, scientists and innovators.

William Clay Ford, executive chairman of Ford Motor Company, announced the scholarship programme at London's Science Museum, saying: "I am pleased to be able to support a new generation of technical innovators that can play a part in shaping the future of mobility in our next 100 years."

Ford is offering sponsorship of £10,000 per student over a period of three years on courses such as engineering, science, manufacturing and technology at leading universities in the UK.
