Ambitious graduates looking for work in sales and marketing, manufacturing, and research and development should be alerted to moves by a medical company in Ireland to create 115 high-end jobs over the next few years.

Goodman Medical Ireland has already begun recruitment in its manufacturing division as it looks to expand its operations.

Enterprise minister Batt O'Keeffe heralded the Japanese-based company's announcement, saying it will boost Ireland's standing as a hub for foreign investment.

He said: "The jobs bolster Ireland's high-end manufacturing backbone and consolidate our reputation as a leading location in Europe for foreign direct investments."

Goodman, which was founded in Nagoya, Japan, in 1975 makes and distributes medical instruments and equipment all over the world.

The company set up its base in Ireland six years ago and currently employs 56 people to manufacture cardiology products.

Goodman president Takehito Yogo said: "We chose the Galway operation for our future growth and development due to our dedicated and proactive workforce, the support of IDA Ireland, our strong supplier network and the positive experiences we have had of doing business in Ireland since 2004."

IDA Ireland chief Barry O'Leary said the announcement demonstrated Ireland's attractiveness for companies investing and expanding in the life sciences sector.
