Computing and IT graduates have been buoyed by the news that US consumer electronics giant Best Buy will create up to 1,000 jobs in its 'Geek Squad' division, which provides specialist after-sales support for customers.
The firm has declared its intention to move into the UK market in the spring by opening its first store in Southampton, Thurrock and Merry Hill in the West Midlands, bringing with it new job opportunities for computing and IT graduates.
New recruits will be signed up for their "blue shirt academy" programme - a nine-week training course designed to keep staff up to date of the latest technological innovations to hit the market.
Paul Antoniadis, chief executive of Best Buy branded operations, said: "Services are integral to the Best Buy proposition as we create and build a business that will illustrate, advise and connect our customers' choice of consumer electronics, and our people will achieve that goal with an unwavering commitment to impartial and expert customer service.
"That's why we're so committed to extensively training our store-based employees in order for them to work in a truly customer-focused way."
Andrew Brem of Geek Squad added: "Geek Squad will quadruple our tech support team numbers during the next 18 months as we look to expand our business further."
