Producing graduates in agriculture and food management will be Lincoln University's aim when it starts enrolment for new degree programmes to fill gaps in the industry.
The university has taken steps to resolve the lack of young talent attracted to farm work by creating new qualifications for its September 2010 academic intake.
England's farmers and food manufacturers have "acute difficulties" finding staff for about 60% of all job vacancies, as more than half the workforce is aged 40 or older, the university said.
Graduates looking to retrain in a different industry may find food management an attractive option due to the sheer demand for new recruits.
Principal lecturer David Stainton added: "Over the next 10 years the sector will need 60,000 new entrants and this means that there will be new opportunities for the development of a young, dynamic workforce.
"The impact of legislation, climate change and sustainability on food production, waste and resource management will drive the demand for technical and supervisory management-level graduates."
