A mother of three has graduated from the University of Chichester with a PGCE in primary school teaching, despite being told she didn't have long to live while battling throat cancer.
Anne Eynon, 51 has twice beaten the disease, and was told by doctors in 1997 that she was unlikely to survive for much longer.
But she overcame her illness in order to get her degree, and had another reason to celebrate, as her son graduated on the same day with a degree in sports science.
She began studying for her teaching degree last year, almost 30 years after she finished her first degree in German, at the University of Nottingham.
Mrs Eynon said: "It was completely different to my first degree, obviously I'm a lot older. It seems more of an achievement now. I wasn't expected to live, so to see my son graduate is just amazing."
She added that being at university with her son Michael, 23, had proved to be a good experience for both of them.
"It was a thrilling experience to be back at university with my son. I thought he might be embarrassed but he wasn't. I helped him at times with his academic studies and he helped me with student etiquette - giving me fashion tips and how to fit in as a mature student.
"We only quibbled over who could use the study and computer."
