Recession-fearing university leavers will take reassurance from discount supermarket ALDI's pledge to create 90-120 graduate jobs this year.
The graduate scheme, which offers a £40,000 salary and a company car, will give jobseekers valuable retail training and work experience.
Aldi regional manager Karen Walker said the scheme helped her to develop a broad cross-section of skills in the workplace.
She added: "From day one I was thrown in at the deep end and handed the keys for a store. It's tough, but I thrive on a challenge.
"The high levels of responsibility from very early in your career was a major influence - no other jobs could compare. What's more, ALDI offers unprecedented variety in the work you do, providing experience in all areas, from finance to store operations and HR."
Earlier this year The Times voted ALDI number one in its Top 100 Graduate Employers list.
