Graduates seeking careers in sales and retailing will be cheered by news that supermarket Morrisons is creating 2,000 more jobs than expected this year.
That's because it has already reached its target of 5,000, linked to the opening of 30 new stores after its acquisition of sites from the Co-operative and Somerfield.
Human resources director Norman Pickavance says that almost a third of the company's top executives started their careers in one of the supermarket's stores.
He says: "These opportunities demonstrate the growth of Morrisons and the strong opportunities for career progression from the shop floor to the top floor.
"We employ over 36,000 18-24 year olds - one of the hardest hit groups by unemployment - as we believe in training from the ground upwards and investing in our people."
He said that one third of new recruits are in that age group, and all receive training for jobs including department supervisors and managers, checkout operators, butchers and fishmongers.
