Training top priority for graduates - graduate jobs

The level of training that companies offer potential graduate employees is a top priority when deciding who to work for, according to the Higher Education Career Services Unit (HECSU).

But firms must follow through on any promises they make to help employees increase the knowledge and experience they need to further their careers.

Says HECSU spokesman Charlie Ball: "Graduates really do value training, and they really will make career decisions based on how good they hear the training is.

"But if graduates only get training up to a certain point, and then it stops, they will question the commitment of their employers."

The unit has found that while two thirds of graduates are satisfied with the training they receive, a third say that their employers had not met their expectations.

Says Mr Ball: "Employees must see that training is actually benefiting them and improving their skills, and companies have got to keep it going throughout the employee`s career."
