There is no surprise banking does not feature on the Government's list of the six best jobs for future graduates.
In place of the once all-powerful draw of finance, it highlighted fields such as healthcare, education and clean technologies as growth areas.
Skills and science minister Lord Drayson said three million jobs would be created in growth industries over the next 10 years. He argues that in order for graduates to make the right decisions they need to know now where the best opportunities will be.
Advanced manufacturing will continue to grow along with the need for digital devices. Clean technologies will also flourish with the expansion of green power such as wind farms.
In the light of our ageing population, healthcare looks a safe option, while pharmaceuticals will always be in demand. A thirst for films, games and music will support the creative industries while opportunities in education are set to expand.
