Graduates looking for a career in the energy sector have been given a boost after the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) announced the number of job opportunities in wind energy will more than double by 2020.
At the launch of a new report Wind at Work - wind energy and job creation in the EU, the group said 33 new jobs have already been created each day for the past five years.
It said this growth is set to continue over the next 11 years with the number of jobs available in the wind sector increasing from 154,000 to 325,000.
According to the EWEA, in 2007 the optimisation of wind energy increased more than any other power generating technology in the EU and the growth was reflected in the number of related jobs which were created. The Wind at Work report shows the sector employed 154,000 people in 2007, with 108,600 of those in direct jobs and the rest in indirect employment.
Christian Kjaer, EWEA Chief Executive, said: "Wind at Work reveals the vast potential of the wind energy industry as a source of employment that can bring real long-term benefits to European economies."
The report shows 75% of all direct wind energy jobs are in Denmark, Germany and Spain, but the UK is beginning to catch up.
