Training & Profiles

More than 200 graduates worldwide start with us every year on our Graduate Development Programmes. Each programme is tailored to the needs of its global location. But wherever in the world you join us, expect a real job with real responsibilities from day one.

A truly international career

In most cases, you’ll have plenty of time to build a solid foundation for your career, spending your initial years in your country of hire. For those who prove they really are future talent, you can hope to be off to another country, probably for two or three years, before moving on again. Just when and where you move will always depend on the opportunities available, as well as your personal aspirations.

Development through real responsibility

By taking this approach to talent development we balance a results-focus with international experience. We believe this accelerates individual growth. For us, hitting ambitious targets only proves how much you’ve grown in a short time. Of course, where you need more formal training to help you achieve, we are committed to delivering it.

Case Studies

Name: Hannah
Role: R & D Graduate

Life as an R&D graduate
The best thing about working in R&D is that you get to design the product right from the start. You start with 100 grams on the lab bench and three years later you see it fly off the factory lines in the finished packaging. As a graduate I think that RB has supported my career and ambitions because they give you the opportunity to do three placements over the course of two years so you get to see a really wide breadth of the type of R&D that we do. You get to meet loads of different people in supply and in marketing so it means you have a great network of contacts for anything that you want to do.

What’s your greatest achievement so far?
For me I think the greatest achievement is something really personal. I worked quite closely with an industrial placement student and when she first started she was quite shy, very nervous about talking to the senior people within the department. She just didn’t really know how to handle being in a work situation, and after coaching and training, you just see them so much happier to approach someone or you see them winning an argument or having a battle and you think ‘six months ago they wouldn’t have had the confidence to do that’.

What advice would you give for applying?
If someone was looking to apply the advice I’d give would be ‘just be yourself’. They’re looking for a real mix of culture and personalities so don’t be afraid to stand out. Don’t be afraid to be a bit different. I’d also say don’t be afraid to speak up and be a bit confident because you need to be sure that your voice is heard. Don’t be shy.

What excites you about your work?
The most exciting thing that I do as part of my job is either working in the factory or working in our pilot scale unit because it’s on your feet, it’s exciting, it’s big scale equipment, hands-on, making the product on a large scale, and actually packing it into proper packaging at the end of the process. It’s just so exciting thinking that you designed it – it’s the real product.

Do you have what it takes?
If a friend of mine was looking to join the company I’d deinitely recommend it to them, but first of all I’d ask them if they were happy to work somewhere that’s quite fast-paced, quite dynamic and can be pressured because those are the kind of elements that make the culture at RB unique.

Name: Megy
Role: Marketing Graduate

On early responsibility
When I joined RB I was a graduate fresh trainee for the marketing and sales department. In FMCG the marketing and sales function is always the driver of the whole business. So my boss gave me a high level of responsibility, which means I’m effectively brand manager for Veet.

Career growth and development
When I went for my interview my HR manager said that RB really put a lot of effort into the graduate programme development. There is a very comprehensive career path for me and I can really see that there is fast growth possible for me in the near future.

The importance of mentoring and support
When I first joined RB I was given a separate mentor. In addition, all my line managers have given me very good advice, both for work issues and also short term and long term career advice.

What’s been your greatest achievement so far?
One of my biggest achievements since joining RB has been the Dettol Personal Wash Herbal launch. My Brand Manager was not available so I was given responsibility for the launch – even though I had been with RB for only 3 or 4 months at that time. So we looked very carefully into the formula and tried to find a way to make the product more attractive. We launched the product in just four months. It was the shortest launch period in China ever. Two or three months after the launch the value share of Dettol Personal Wash had reached the highest ever.

How would you describe the RB culture?
The culture here is a big thing: it’s open and direct, with no hierarchy. There is a very good team spirit here. People here feel cared for and I think this must make them perform better.
