UK companies are looking to recruit graduates with exotic language skills in an attempt to maximise business overseas.
According to a new hiring trends report from multilingual consultancy Euro London, firms are now particularly keen to recruit workers within the finance and sales sectors with Arabic, Gujerati, Polish, Czech, Cantonese and Korean language skills.
Traditionally speaking Dutch, German, Japanese and Russian was an advantage, but as companies look to develop in new and alternative markets exotic multilingual skills are becoming more sought after.
Demand for multilingual candidates in digital media and sales has also increased as organisations look for ways to boost sales both at home and abroad.
But companies in the North West are facing difficulties recruiting IT and engineering professionals with language abilities as there has been a reduction in the number of competent foreign nationals coming to the UK.
Steve Shacklock from Euro London said: "With the economic picture and the recruitment market varying so much across the globe, organisations in the UK are realising the importance of maximising on relationships with their customers overseas.
"This is not only in Europe but increasingly across Asia too, making language ability an even more valuable skill than ever."
